“Widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest athletes, Anna Meares OAM is a cycling legend whose 15-year career produced 41 medals, including 18 gold, across the Olympics, World Championships, and Commonwealth Games. Overcoming a broken neck just seven months before the 2008 Beijing Games, Anna made a remarkable comeback, winning silver—the only cycling medal for Australia that year.
Her fierce rivalry with Victoria Pendleton culminated in London 2012, where she claimed gold in the Sprint through precision, strategy, and sheer determination. At Rio 2016, Anna served as Australia’s flag bearer and captain, becoming the first Australian in history to win individual medals at four consecutive Olympic Games.
Post-retirement, Anna transitioned into leadership, commentary, and mentoring roles, including General Manager of the 2022 Commonwealth Games team, a Tokyo 2020 Olympics commentator, and now Chef de Mission for Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028, where she continues to shape Australian sporting excellence.”
